REBUILDING TRUST AFTER A DOWNSIZING

Problem

  • Help a hospital medical group recover from a significant downsizing

  • Rebuild the culture among remaining physicians, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, and clerical staff

Action

  • Conducted a survey followed by focus groups to gauge attitudes and beliefs in the aftermath of the downsizing

  • Learned that clinicians and business management clash over the amount of time required to care for patients

  • Documented increased work load and low morale and fear among employees, among other issues
